La Vanguardia, Barcelona, Spain
September 28, 2026
We are honoured to share the new award for the Premios La Vanguardia 2026, designed by Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects and produced by RABAT, in collaboration with Ceràmica Cumella, celebrating 145 years of La Vanguardia and its relationship with Barcelona.

The awards were handed out to the 10 winners during a very special evening at the Premios La Vanguardia gala on Monday, 28 September.
Inspired by the evolution of the newspaper’s masthead since 1881, letters from different eras come together through collage, a technique characteristic of EMBT’s work. The resulting ceramic sculpture incorporates archival images of La Vanguardia and Barcelona, connecting the newspaper’s history with the city’s shared memory.

In 2026, as Barcelona celebrates its designation as World Capital of Architecture and the Year of Gaudí, the piece reflects the city’s architecture, Modernisme and Catalonia’s ceramic tradition. Ceramic brings colour and visual richness, while a bronze base engraved with “145” marks the newspaper’s anniversary, adding permanence and solidity.
Special thanks to RABAT for involving us in this special project, to Ceràmica Cumella for their continued support and collaboration with our studio, and to Llàtzer Moix for his amazing article in La Vanguardia.
