At the threshold of the Elbphilharmonie, the Vorplatz and Dalmannkai Promenade act as a civic forecourt and as a key link between the upper city and the harbor edge. The design ensures continuity and accessibility, connecting the three flood levels through ramps and stairways that weave between the residential buildings and the waterfront. The lower promenade (≈4.50 m) accepts flooding, integrating seating, trees, and brick walls that domesticate the port scale; the upper level (≈7.50 m) forms a sheltered urban approach with pergolas and broad walks. The use of klinker brick and robust paving patterns reinforces the historic character of Speicherstadt and the material identity of Hamburg’s docks.
