Sandtorpark embodies the neighborhood scale of HafenCity: a community park that extends the harbor’s topography inland. Soft landscaping, shaded seating areas, and play zones connect with the adjacent Gassen the narrow pedestrian alleys to create a continuous pedestrian network between the city level and the lower promenades. Native planting and permeable surfaces enhance climatic comfort and biodiversity, while the use of brick and stone echoes the port’s material memory. As a green hinge between the Sandtorhafen basin and the surrounding educational and residential programs, Sandtorpark offers both calm and vitality at the heart of HafenCity.
