STATUS

The Marco Polo Terrassen form an urban amphitheatre overlooking the Grasbrookhafen basin. Layers of steps, ramps, and green slopes mediate between city and water, creating a generous public stage for daily use and large gatherings. Completed in 2007 over an area of about 5,700 m², the terraces integrate flood protection with civic life through durable materials, klinker brick, prefabricated stone, and vegetation offering panoramic views and access to the marina. This topographical landscape has become one of HafenCity’s most emblematic meeting points, where the city openly meets the harbor.

Part of the development of HafenCity Public Spaces in Hamburg, Germany. After winning the competition in 2002.
