Urban Recovery and Transformation: A New Community Space
This emblematic project between Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs revitalizes an iconic area with the creation of a green park designed for residents and visitors. This urban environment will transform into an open space that promotes community life through daytime and nighttime events, concerts, cultural activities, and recreational areas for all ages. The project seeks to establish this new space as the social and creative epicenter of the neighborhood.
Integration of Heritage with Contemporary Functions
The Turbine Hall, the project’s centerpiece, will preserve its historical essence through interventions that respect its original structure, maintaining architectural features such as existing openings and pathways. A new access building, designed in dialogue with the heritage site, will house exhibitions and a multipurpose auditorium. This structure will also redefine the facade, opening it toward the sea. Its interactive skin will preserve the hall’s historical identity while adapting it to contemporary needs.
Cultural Programming and Flexible Spaces
The project emphasizes a rich cultural program that will include events, conferences, screenings, and artistic workshops to promote knowledge exchange and foster audiovisual creativity on both local and international levels. The spaces will be designed for versatility, adapting to various uses and becoming a hub for training, innovation, and experience-sharing for professionals and the community.
Sustainable and Technological Design
Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with the use of eco-friendly construction materials, solar panels on the roof, and a rainwater collection system for irrigation and other sustainable uses. Additionally, cutting-edge connectivity infrastructure, including high-speed internet and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, will support the needs of the industry and its users.
Improved Mobility and Accessibility
A key component of the proposal is the enhancement of neighborhood mobility. The park will reorganize access points and circulation, better connecting sports areas and improving links to public transport networks, including trains, trams, and bike lanes. This comprehensive improvement will ensure greater accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors, promoting safe and sustainable mobility.
An Inclusive Space for the Community
The park will be an accessible and open space for all residents. With facilities and services tailored to diverse audiences, it will offer community activities and gathering spaces for social interaction and innovation. The combination of green areas, recreational spaces, and inspiration zones will foster an atmosphere of collaboration and creativity.
A New Urban Vision
With this requalification, the history of the Turbine Hall will be preserved and revitalized, integrating it into a new urban context that promotes coexistence, innovation, and sustainability. The project aims to provide a new central hub for the neighborhood—a vibrant and dynamic space for the residents of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, and a cultural and creative reference point for the entire city.
