The design aims to create a space that reflects the characteristic dynamism of communication in the 21st century. The proposal understands the Main train station as a welcoming gate to Prague, whilst maintaining the 1970´s extension by Alena Šrámková. It reconnects undesirable urban discontinuities that history has brought into place,

merging all historical layers into a bright, sustainable, and respectful future introducing new functions and renewing the image of the site.

Replacing the existing loading and unloading spaces with two new wings increases significantly the usable space of the station, and most importantly reconnects it to the park, creating a unique intertwined ecosystem. The south and north entrances flow directly from the park, allowing an easy access to the trains.

The existing open air car parking will be transformed into new leisure spaces for the station and the city, connecting easily with the Fanta Building. A new wooden woven roof, transparent and provided with well inserted photovoltaic cells, provides comfort and energy to this space all year long. Here commercial and leisure programs are accommodated, adapting to the needs of the citizens, and a lush vegetation can grow thanks to the mild climate provided by the photovoltaic cells on the roof.

The Vrchlického sady park is now understood as the forefront of the station. The urban design relates to the aesthetic of the Hlavní Nádraží creating spaces for activities and promoting security. It improves the permeability and the quality of life for pedestrians and cyclist, while adding functions such a sport playgrounds, cafés and water features which will attract a broader public. The tram line is integrated into the park with design elements helping towards safety.

The New Prague Main Station District seeks new connections and a new atmosphere for the city while respecting and enhancing the existing historical elements into a bright and beautiful future.
