The landscape design for the Elbtower creates a sculptural and civic base for Hamburg’s future landmark. Inspired by the metaphor of the tower as a wind-filled sail, we project invisible aerodynamic forces onto the ground, generating a fluid system of lines that structure the public space. These lines, reminiscent of boat wakes and wind currents, define a stratified material pattern made of molded concrete and colored asphalt. The design integrates ramps, promenades, staircases, terraces, and seating steps that rise to meet the tower, transforming the basement rooftops into an active public plaza. An artistic pavement motif celebrates Hamburg’s harbor legacy by depicting iconic silhouettes-Michel, Elbphilharmonie, Elbtower-along boat trajectories on the Elbe, visible from the tower and S-Bahn line. The landscape becomes a place of transition and discovery, offering different atmospheres through gardens, wood decks, water features, and green spaces. Panoramic viewpoints and layered programs reinforce the Elbtower’s role as a symbolic gateway to the city and a catalyst for Hafencity’s urban development.
