STATUS

Weaving Architecture was presented at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in 2018. This poetic installation explores the concept of “weaving” as a multidimensional architectural strategy. The project evolves from the studio’s earlier experimentation with natural fibers, beginning with the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai.

The installation metaphorically and physically weaves architecture at various scales: connecting territories with metro infrastructure, social inclusion through urban renewal, and communal spaces via lightweight structures. The canopy structure combines American red oak modules with steel and is interlaced with multicolored fiberglass threads, referencing African textiles and local graffiti. This technique blurs boundaries and celebrates community identity.

Through “Weaving Architecture,” EMBT interprets FREESPACE – the exhibition’s theme – as a socially responsive space created by layering and connecting, a symbol of the human and material interconnectedness that defines contemporary architecture.
