The Dolmen Table was originally designed in 1995 by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue for their own residence in the center of Barcelona. This distinctive furniture piece exemplifies their creative reuse of materials, crafted initially in bolondo wood reclaimed from the Icaria pergola project and later reproduced in American cherry and tulipwood (American poplar).

The table draws inspiration from the pragmatic design of restaurant tables that fold vertically when not in use. However, the Dolmen Table expands that concept by introducing multifunctionality and architectural presence into the domestic space. When unfolded, it serves as a spacious desk, equipped with integrated drawers that support focused work. When folded, the table transforms into a mobile wall or screen, acting as a space divider and contributing to the flexibility of interior environments.

Sculptural in form and intuitive in use, the Dolmen Table embodies ability to merge practical needs with poetic expression. Its design is rooted in transformation-responding to spatial dynamics, functional shifts, and user interaction. The table thus becomes more than furniture: it is architecture at a smaller scale, a dynamic interface between structure and inhabitant.

The name “Dolmen” evokes ancient stone structures-silent witnesses to time-resonating with the table’s solid presence and elemental clarity. It is a design that invites reinterpretation and continual reinvention, making it timeless in both form and purpose.
