The Plan Magazine features the newly inaugurated Naples Underground Central Station ‘Centro Direzionale,’ designed by Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT, which connects the city’s past and present with a striking, organic design. Inspired by Naples’ volcanic nature and historic architecture, the station contrasts with the modernist grid of Kenzo Tange’s Centro Direzionale, introducing warmth and nature to a 1970s business district. Built primarily with glued laminated timber, the station’s vaulted ceilings evoke a walk in the woods, blending art, architecture, and history. Featuring dynamic public spaces and a ceiling adorned with a Pompeii-inspired artwork, the station reinvigorates the area with a sense of place and connection.
