TYPOLOGY
Strandhöft is the name of the peak in front of the Elbphilharmonie at the river Elbe, and it is the last part of EMBT’s intervention at the public spaces of HafenCity – the former harbour in Hamburg, Germany.

The historic harbour pavement, the industrial Stelcon slabs, the crane rails and two cranes with a gauge of 36 m and a weight of 205 tons characterize Strandhöft as an industrial monument.
Our design keeps the reminiscence of the former movement of the busy port with fine lines of black basalt in the pavement, redrawing the loading and unloading of ships, and the direction of cranes and vehicles in the harbour square.
With the construction of a new amphitheater with 80 seats at the end of the two promenades Strandkai and Hübnerkai, a new place for art, culture, and entertainment is being created.
