Parc dels Colors, designed by Miralles Tagliabue – EMBT, is a public park and civic center in Mollet del Vallès, conceived as a dynamic urban space that blends nature, color, and architectural experimentation. The project sought to transform a peripheral and underutilized area into a vibrant community hub that integrates spaces for leisure, sports, and social gatherings.
The park features undulating landscapes, colorful paving, and graffiti-covered walls that interact with natural light and shadow. Vegetation is strategically used to define different activity zones, and artificial topographies create playful environments for children and adults alike. The design includes a suspended civic building inspired by the idea of an “imaginary topography,” challenging conventional notions of land use and architectural permanence.
A key conceptual element of the project is the incorporation of colors and textures reminiscent of fruit seen from above, along with an evolving landscape where water appears and disappears throughout the day, mimicking natural cycles. Parc dels Colors embodies a visionary approach to urban space, redefining the relationship between built and natural environments while fostering a strong community identity.
” A place where it rains every morning-
– early-”
“Imagine a building which stays on a topography which doesn’t exist..”
Were we negating the land?
There are few empty lands in the periphery such as the one we found here.
Maybe the people living here: the emigrants and the old people, will substitute with their own bodies the land and topography, resembling Chagall’s paintings as they sustaini the building top of themselves.
