The Lungo Mare bench was designed in 2002 as part of their broader exploration of urban furniture that interacts poetically with its surroundings. Produced by Escofet, this bench forms part of the public space design for the redevelopment of the Plaça del Poble in Andorra la Vella.

With its name meaning “along the sea” in Italian, the bench evokes the idea of continuous movement and fluidity, resonating with the architects’ consistent interest in dynamic forms. Its shape undulates like a wave or a ribbon across the pavement, inviting users to sit, recline, or play with its gentle curves. The sculptural body is made from reinforced dry-cast concrete, ensuring durability and resistance for heavy-use public spaces, while its anchoring system in stainless steel guarantees firm placement and ease of installation.

More than just a seating object, Lungo Mare is conceived as an inhabitable landscape element merging form, function, and place. Its versatile geometry allows for multiple alignments, groupings, and solitary placements across plazas, promenades, or green areas. The design celebrates informal use and interaction, transforming urban space into a social and aesthetic experience.

The bench expresses a clear dialogue between architecture, nature, and the people who inhabit it.

“We wanted Lungo Mare to be as inviting as the beach and as comfortable as a sand dune or the waves on the sea… we wanted a piece of the beach itself, but made in concrete”.
