After deliberations in New York, the Craft Prize jury has selected Eriko Inazaki as this year’s prize winner. Inazaki’s intricate ceramic sculpture ‘Metanoia’ was created by accumulating minuscule forms that coalesce across the work’s crystallised surface.
The jury, composed of 13 leading figures from the world of design, architecture, journalism, criticism and museum curatorship, including Benedetta Tagliabue, commented on Inazaki’s unique take on ornamentation in ceramics, the like of which they have never seen before. The work’s virtuosity creates a spellbinding presence that commands the exhibition space and inspires wonder.
